One of our favorite recipes to make is the Bacon Cheese Burger Rollup. This is a Kraft recipe that we tweaked slightly and has been a part of our weeknight recipes for a couples years now. Of course, the Kraft version needed some extra cheese so I added some, but it also lacked seasoning which is what makes this version waayy better than the original.
1 lb Lean ground beef
4 slices of Bacon (turkey bacon works great, too)
2 cups Shredded cheddar cheese
1/4 lb (4 oz) Velveeta cheese, cubed
1 Pillsbury Thin Pizza Crust (11 oz)
1 tsp Onion powder
1 tsp Garlic powder
1/2 tsp Black pepper
1 tsp Seasoned salt
-Preheat the oven to 400 degrees F, unroll the pizza crust onto a greased baking sheet
-Brown the beef, drain.
-Add the beef back to the pan and season with onion powder, garlic powder, and black pepper.
-Cut the bacon into bits, then cook and drain.
-Combine the bacon with the seasoned beef and add the cubed Velveeta over low heat. Fold to combine until the cheese is somewhat melted.
-Spread the shredded cheese evenly over the pizza crust and then spoon the meat mixture evenly on top of that.
-Start rolling the pizza crust, starting in the middle and working out towards the edges. Keep rolling until you’ve reached the other side and then make sure the roll is facing seam-side down.
-Sprinkle the seasoned salt on top of the roll and bake for 20-25 minutes until golden brown
-Once finished, allow to cool for 5 minutes before cutting. Serve with ketchup because it’s awesome.
It only takes a couple of slices and some french fries for this to fill you up and it sure beats the pants off of McDonald’s. You can make the same recipe minus the Velveeta but it seems to be missing just a little something. There a lots of ways to change this and make it better for you; it’s especially kid-friendly. So go roll your own!
